Learn how to become visible
without losing yourself

Using your qualities is important, but what good is hard work if no one sees what you contribute? Profiling yourself contributes positively to success. Profiling helps you become visible in a way that suits you. You don’t have to over-shout yourself or play a role that is not right. In fact, that often works against you. Credibility is an important part of profiling. Authenticity is therefore the basis. Showing yourself without pretending to be different.

Visible and active

A strong first impression is half the battle. Not only what you say, but especially how you come across determines whether people catch on or get off. Profiling therefore requires clear choices and an active attitude. This is how you profile yourself strongly:

• Personal branding. Examine what drives you. To win outside is to start inside. The clearer you are about what you want and what you stand for, the easier it is for others to recognize it.
• Active attitude. Make concrete what you are doing and what you want to achieve. Formulate it clearly instead of keeping it vague. Being active also creates movement in your environment.
• Networking. Invest in your network at times when you have something to bring, not just when you need something. By connecting people, your reputation grows with you. Positive actions always pay off in the long run.
• Communicate. Inform colleagues or supervisors about what you are doing. Silent success doesn’t help anyone move forward. Spread that positivity! By sharing results you inspire others and show yourself.

Personal branding

Suppose you establish yourself as a brand, what does that look like? You start by answering questions: why do you do what you do, what do you stand for, how do you want to be remembered and what makes you unique? You don’t want a brand built on air, you want a brand with a strong foundation. Once this is clear, you can pay attention to three pillars:

• Authenticity: stay real and original.
• Reliability: show that people can count on you.
• Reliability: show that people can count on you.

Consistency is also about what you share on social media: what groups you follow, what content you create or like and where you want to be visible or not. Be intentional in those choices.

Keep asking questions

Last but not least: it should be fun! Profiling should not be a burden. If it feels heavy, you are too far from yourself. Go back to asking questions. Examine what you want, what you care about and how you want to present yourself. Ask for input from others as well. Change is the only consistent thing. By staying in motion, profiling becomes more and more natural.
