Six tips for developing a fit mindset
When you think of being fit, you quickly envision athletic achievements. Mind you, what is the value of physical fitness if your mindset doesn’t come along? When you exercise, your muscles get stronger and your endurance grows. Your mindset works the same way. It, too, needs attention, challenge and development. The result? More resilience and a firmer mental fitness. A six-pack for your brain!
Fit mindset as a motivator
A fit mindset, what exactly is that? We describe it as a resilient and positive attitude that allows you to face challenges. It means that you are clear about where your priorities lie and that you consciously choose which situations deserve your attention. A fit mindset helps you in both your personal development and your professional growth. Could you use a boost? These six tips will help you move forward.
Set clear goals
A fit mindset begins with setting clear goals. What do you want to achieve, at work and privately? Formulate realistic, measurable goals and break them down into smaller steps. This will make it easier to stay focused and motivate yourself. What do you want personally and professionally ? Make sure your goals are realistic, measurable and achievable. Break them down into sub-goals to make it manageable. Setting goals gives you a clear focus and makes it easier to motivate yourself and take action.
Be proactive
With a fit mindset, you do not react in a wait-and-see manner, but take a proactive approach. You take initiative and responsibility. Don’t know where to start? Ask for help. That’s action, too. We are not all good at the same tasks, so make use of each other’s talent! By tackling tasks, taking on new situations and continuing to challenge yourself, you train your brain. Bold choices keep you alert and increase your self-confidence.
Accept setbacks
Setbacks are part of life. By accepting that they exist, you become more influential in how you deal with them. Examine where you have an impact. Can you influence? Good. Is it beyond your influence? Then you choose between accepting or letting go.
Focus on the positive
“The grass is greener where you water it.” What you give attention to, grows. Focus on what does work and what is already there. By actively appreciating what is going well, you develop a more positive mindset. That keeps you out of a downward spiral and magnifies what you actually accomplish.
Take care of yourself
A fit mindset is not separate from a fit body. Sufficient sleep, nutritious food and exercise provide a stable foundation. When you take good care of yourself, you have more mental space. Also, know when to take yourself seriously and when not to. Have you been sleeping poorly? Then don’t make big choices. Make sure the basics are in order first.
Keep learning
Your brain needs stimuli. Without new input, you become less creative and less flexible. Be open to new knowledge, experiences and perspectives. Regularly try something different: a skill, a conversation, a way of looking at things. This is how you keep your brain sharp and develop your emotional intelligence.
A fit mindset, and then what?
You are not a robot. So, don’t score a ten on all six points? No worries. Awareness is the first step. Ask yourself where you are and where you want to go. What do you need to become more resilient? What gives you energy? By dwelling on your needs, you stay mentally fit and develop yourself. Get your curiosity piqued by reading further in our other inspiration blogs.
