The key to creative success

You are sitting at your desk, thinking about a creative concept, plan or solution, and after a while you feel that you are stuck. The creative peak seems to have been reached. That’s where the biggest gains lie. If you stop at this point, you often miss the most surprising solutions. Find out how to get more out of your creative thinking process.

Perseverance is half the battle

Creative work is not linear. You don’t always see when you are making progress, so doubt strikes more quickly. This causes demotivation and the feeling that your ability to think is waning. In many cases, this is not true. It is precisely at this point that your brain demands perseverance. Quitting means you are selling yourself short.

Don’t give up yet

The persistent wins! Research from the Kellogg School of Management shows that creative ideas often don’t emerge until later in the thought process. In this study, participants did two brainstorming sessions. After the first round, they predicted how many more ideas they would come up with. In reality, they always came up with more than expected, and their creativity was many times higher. So don’t give up yet after your first brainstorming session!

Volharding

Sitting around until your brain locks up is not necessary. So sitting for hours on end is really not necessary. A short break helps your unconscious brain process information while you take a moment to do something else. Choose an activity that is mildly creatively stimulating, such as drawing or doing a puzzle. Then you will continue with a fresher head and create space for new perspectives.
